I've been wanting to shoot a black on black dress image -- and when I bumped into Ollayah at my studio working with another photographer, I thought she'd be perfect for this shoot.

It's a popular misunderstanding that this type of image is "low-key lighting" -- this is simply a properly exposed image of a very black dress on a very black background. She was lit by a single overhead round softbox and a pair of small softbox edge lights. I chose a very slight short-lighting technique to keep her slightly round facial features accurate but make sure she stayed feminine.
